One of the primary directives of the Delaware Dreams private foundation is to provide for the special needs and/or wishes of Delaware children with a serious illness or health-related hardship.
Since 1987 Delaware Dreams, Inc. has supported Delaware’s children in many ways. Delaware Dreams, Inc. has responded to individual cases brought to us by a local children’s hospital when children have been involved in an accident or other health-related tragic circumstances. We support families with needed items for the ill child including clothing, food, and any other special needs requested by the family. Sadly, we have even had to help with the funeral expenses for a child when it was found that the family’s financial resources had been drained due to medical expenses.
Beyond the many individual cases, Delaware Dreams, Inc., sponsors events for the families of children being treated for cancer at the Nemours Children’s Hospital.
For the families of children being treated at the Nemours Childen’s Hospital:
-Delaware Dreams adopts multiple families to provide holiday gifts based on
wish lists created by the children treated at Nemours Children’s Hospital, specifically at the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. In addition to gifts for these children, Delaware Dreams also provides presents for all the children in the family.
-Delaware Dreams sponsors a back-to-school event for the Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders Sickle Cell Program children ;
-Delaware Dreams has supported the Young Heroes 5K Run and Walk event for children with cancer and their families;
Since 2006 Delaware Dreams has supported Exceptional Care for Children. Delaware’s first and only pediatric skilled nursing facility and a Top-100 Nursing Home, Exceptional Care for Children is a center for technology-dependent children requiring skilled nursing palliative and end-of-life care. In addition, Delaware Dreams works with the staff to find what can be provided to enhance the lives of the children while they are in the home-like setting.
Delaware Dreams provides gifts selected from wish lists for the children living
at Exceptional Care for Children. Additionally, Delaware Dreams sponsors a
Holiday luncheon for the staff, which includes both day and overnight personnel at Exceptional Care for Children
Delaware Dreams provides Down Syndrome Association of Delaware (DSA) funding for special events, including a summer camp. This camp provides children with Down syndrome the opportunity to participate in various activities while fostering independence, promoting physical and emotional health, and boosting their confidence.
Delaware Dreams is proud to support the Delaware FAME program (Forum to Advance Minorities in Engineering) by annually awarding a two-year college scholarship to a graduating member of the Delaware FAME program.
